Widgeon Watch, Lelant.
We stayed at Widgeon Watch in Lelant.
Lovely property with everything we needed and the added bonus of parking which is hard to find in St Ives.
The welcome gift was a lovely addition.
Would highly recommend the short walk to the train station lovely coastal ride into St Ives.
Also The old forge bistro.. again a short walk. We had the most delicious meals.
All in all a super property with the most comfy bed I’ve ever slept in so much so the lovely Harriet from Cornwall hideaways has been super helpful in trying to find out what we slept on so I can purchase one for home.
Will definitely be booking again!

Dirty, run down and terrible customer service
2 Silvershell View Port Isaac
What a shame, this house is in the most beautiful spot with the most stunning view but inside it’s dirty and in need of some serious tlc. The carpets were filthy, stained and full of previous guest owners dog hair. The walls were in desperate need of a re paint as they were full of marks, scratches and splashes. The patio set outside wasn’t any better. Rusty and rotting in places.
When we arrived at the property so did the cleaners so we left them too it as we arrived a little earlier than the check in time. There were 4 cleaners in total and they weren’t in there more than 20 minutes. We could see why. The carpets didn’t look like they’d been hoovered, crisp packets and old receipts were found under the furniture when trying to retrieve something, there were cobwebs everywhere and the place just smelt fusty and in need of a proper clean as well. The decor is very dated and old fashioned. It’s a shame the owner/owners are charging the rental fee they are knowing it’s in such a state.
The view on the decking is beautiful but that’s it unfortunately. Definitely better places can be found for the same price.
After contacting the letting agents we got a standard reply of ‘thanks for your feedback, we’ll try and do better next time’ ! clearly they won’t seen as very similar complaints have been left over the past couple of years.
Avoid and stay elsewhere.
Falsely accused of damage and leaving…
Falsely accused of damage and leaving mess after finding the house in an utterly grim state from the off. The owner of the property we have just returned from clearly takes pride in it. However, in her absence, the agents are hugely letting her down.
The cleaner was still there when we arrived after 4pm pretending to mop which was very strange. Then once inside the place was filthy. Only a handful of plates here and there, all in disarray. The only toilet roll in each bathroom was already half used. We didn't even set foot in the games room (much to my disappointment!) due to a great big rotten hole at the door entrance and the fact that it was too dangerous for the older ladies in our group. 3 toilets wouldn't stop flushing and one of the showers wouldn't switch off. One of the rooms was still boarded up after storm eunice 4 and a half months ago with no opening window for fire escape. They have claimed to email me about this but have yet to show me that mail.
Snot on the windows EVERYWHERE and some on the walls. Thick dust, hair balls. I could go on and on.
A plumber came over to look at a tap while we were there and we pointed out the toilet and shower to which he agreed there was an issue. He said the owner does not cut corners so must not be aware. I told him we'd let her know of some of the issues for her information.
I later mentioned some of the issues over the phone to Cornwall hideaways.
Then today I have an email from them accusing us of damage to the floor and leaving a lot of glass in the games room.... The room we didn't so much as unlock the door to! It seems that attack may be the first form of defence in this case as this is ENTIRELY fabricated.
All I had in Response to the issues we had was that there's a maintenance man who didn't mention anything and that their 'inspection' team had already taken a look and deemed the house fine before we arrived. Oh, well I guess that's OK then. Even though I've sent them images of the filth and they've acknowledged it. I guess this just means that they think it's OK to put people up in that!
And then to be accused in an outright lie of damage? I can only imagine this was to discredit us to the owner before we complained. I'm totally shocked!

I have just returned from a weeks stay…
I have just returned from a week's stay at Bridge Cottage Devoran and I am very disappointed. The disinterest and poor customer service shown by the agents may be due to the fact the owners are selling the property but this does not excuse them. Cornish Hideaways didn't seem to give a damn; they had taken my money £1,500 and the issues were not resolved.
It was shabby, the touch points had not been cleaned even though their COVID policy promised they would be, they were full of dirty finger marks, the tv room was damp, neither bathroom was in fully working order, blocked shower, a toilet which took 40 mins to fill and a tap which we were unable to turn off. The plumber was unable to fix the plumbing issues during our stay and the maintenance man agreed the property was not to standard, he couldn't supply new crockery but did unblock the shower when he removed a thick 6 inch hair plug - which was revolting. The crockery supplied included 5 chipped dinner plates
5 chipped bowls
4 chipped side plates
Badly cracked rectangular dish
2 Small cracked bowls
3 chipped mugs
I think I should have been offered some recompense due to the poor standard offered. I would never use this company again.Michelle Marsh

Magpie Cottage- St Teath
Magpie Cottage- St Teath, Cornwall
A well appointed cosy cottage situated at a crossroads on the very busy B3314 near Port Gaverne.
It has a large garden, but with little privacy.
With our booking, “Cornwall Hideaways” misrepresented the “comprehensive” nature of a welcome hamper that was offered, which turned out to be little more than a gift box of tea, coffee, biscuits and fudge. This was very disappointing. They have since corrected their website.
The property would benefit from instructions for appliances and a bread knife.

Quick enough to rent you a cottage
But after a bad review did not get back with an explanation not good enough
Excellent company right from the start…
Excellent company right from the start when Joanne helped sort out a tricky booking. The property we stayed in was the best we have had, beautifully equipped and clean, plus a great welcome pack. Would definately use them again when going to Cornwall.

Super helpful and professional
Joanne couldn’t have been more helpful; due to Lockdown holiday cancelled twice but company has kept us very well informed. Sadly couldn’t find a compatible date for the third attempt and offered a full refund.
Next time will deal directly with Cornwall Hideaways and give Airbnb a miss!
Thanks Joanne.
